July 2012 - Vol 9, No 7
CURRENTLAND - The summer sizzle is upon us, and what better way to beat the heat than to enjoy some quality, air-conditioned entertainment? Whether folks are in Arkansas or Oklahoma, there are always plenty of shows to experience. This month brings a plethora of live performance for all to choose from.
Tonkawa, Okla. – Currentland sure loves community, especially when choice shows are involved. Luckily, this month brings the Oklahoma Community Theatre Association (OCTA) festival to town to showcase the best of community performance throughout Oklahoma July 11-15. This 5-day event is known for packing in multiple plays each day and night, with the top two advancing to the regional festival.
In addition to the shows, attendees can expect a marketing contest, silent auction, and brunch. OCTA would like to thank everyone in advance for supporting the arts locally and beyond.
This year’s festival is hosted at the Kinzer Performing Arts Center on the campus of Northern Oklahoma College (NOC), which is located at 1220 E. Grand Ave. Facility amenities are ADA compliant and group/motorcoach parking is available.
Tickets may be purchased for single, all-day, or all week performances, as well as for individual brunches. Registration forms and information are available by visiting www.travelok.com or www.oktheatre.org. For further information on lodging, schedules, T-shirts, and more, please visit the web site or call (405) 840-0788.
Rogers, Ark. – Rogers Little Theatre presents “Chicago the Musical” by Bob Fosse (book) Fred Ebb (book, lyrics), and John Kander (music), July 27-August 12.
Set in prohibition-era 1920s, this show originally opened on Broadway in 1975 and ran for 936 performances. Fosse choreographed the original show, and it is still strongly identified with his style. The 1996 Broadway revival holds the record for longest running revival show, and is still a fan favorite in communities all over America.
Watch the story of Roxy and Velma come to life on the stage, performed by a handpicked cast of Arkansas actors. While nearly 50 people auditioned for the show, it had to be narrowed down to the top 17 performers, seven of which will be making their RLT debuts.
The show runs July 27-29, August 2-5, & 9-12. Tickets are available at www.rogerslittletheater.org or by calling (479) 631-8988. RLT is located at 116 S. Second Street. Please visit the web site for more information on upcoming shows, show times, and more.
This and more will set the stage for Currentland this month. As always, be on the lookout for other shows and live performance offered in the area.
