June 2012 - Vol 9, No 6
Tulsa, OK- For those of you steeped in the lore of American muscle cars, you are in store for a treat this month. The 38th annual Mid-America Ford and Shelby Nationals are coming to T-Town for a five day celebration of torque and horsepower. Thousands of enthusiasts will celebrate a multitude of events, commemorating this historic brand and its fallen creator.
This year has added significance due to the passing of Carroll Shelby (January 11, 1923 – May 10, 2012) at the age of 89. Shelby was an American automotive designer, racing driver and entrepreneur known for introducing the AC Motors-based Shelby American Cobra. In 1965, Shelby partnered with Ford Motor Company, to release the classic Mustang Cobra. This partnership has continued to flourish, in that for fifty years Shelby American Inc. has sold modified Ford vehicles, as well as performance parts.
Everybody is invited to celebrate his life’s work, as over 1,500 cars will stream into Tulsa from all over the nation. This event, which is the Home of the Shelby Nationals, will bear witness to an all Ford car show, along with The Shelby American 50th Anniversary Tour. Also, there will be a 3-day course and open track, featuring vintage Mustang, Shelby, and Cobra road racers competing in a series of exhibitions. There is also going to be special guest speakers, a major all-Ford swap meet, evening programs and many new cars from the world of Ford and Ford racing. To cap things off, the All-day Drag racing and FE Shoot-out will return for everyone’s pleasure.
June 13-17 are the dates to mark down on your calendar and it’s not too late to register. For more information, go to www.midamericafordmeet.com, call (405) 946-3382 or email info@midamericafordmeet.com.
